North Muskham parish is established for 7 councillors including the Chairman. Next elections 2011.

Our Parish Council is made up of seven councillors who meet regularly to make decisions on the work and direction of the council. As elected bodies parish councils are responsible to the people they represent – that’s your local community.

Attending a council meeting is the best way to find out what they do. You can find out when the next Parish Council is here

Each year a sum of money called a ‘precept’ is collected through your council tax. This money is used by your Parish Council to improve facilities and services for local people. Parish Councils can also apply for grants and loans and, if they own property, can receive money from rents or leases. The North Muskham precept for 2008/2009 is £11,000 per annum and increase from the previous year in order to fund the new village hall loan. This reverts to the same level as 2005/2006.

In March 2006 a 'Housing Needs' survey of North Muskham was conducted by Midlands Rural Housing. For results see http://www.newark-sherwooddc.gov.uk/ppimageupload/holding/Image38023.PDF

What is a Parish Council?

There are over 8,700 parish and town councils representing around 16 million people across England. They form the most local level of government and cover many rural and urban areas.

 What services do they provide?

Your parish council has an overall responsibility for the well-being of your local community. Their work falls into three main categories:
